The rains let up late this afternoon and I took the chance to go refill one of the hanging feeders. While outside, I heard the very distinct call of a
Common Raven (and
here). Actually, they’re not that common in this area. If you look at the
map from the Cornell’s All About Birds site, they show the birds in the Adirondacks of New York and in the Appalachian Mountains of southern Pennsylvania down to Georgia. There is a decided gap here in PA. The range of the raven has been expanding so it’s possible this one could be a resident or it could just be passing through.
