The Anchoress has an excellent suggestion on how to combat global warming: Cancel all the concerts.
If Sheryl Crow needs all those buses and trucks just for her little act, just think of the number needed for a multi-band concert tour. If they just all stayed home and shut up for one summer…well, it might save the world!
And just think what could be saved if we shut down all movie and TV production for just one year!

When I used to be a regular attendee of the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Arlo Guthrie was the headliner on Sunday night one year. He gave a ten minute speech about the enviroment, the evils of nuclear power, how "we" should do everything we can to live lightly on the Earth, the usual rhetoric, the he and his band proceeded to crank up the amps and play a completely electric set. After the first number, I stood up and yelled out, "If you so concerned about unnecessary usage of electricty, why aren't you playing an acoustic set?" I was promptly ushered out of the concert area by security. It's the usual "do as I say, not as I do" nonsense.
