Pre Week 2 Polls and
Week 2 Opponents

There were a few changes in the AP and Coaches polls after the opening week. I’ve also added the CBSSPORTS.COM 128 rankings to the others, but they (the 128) are much different the further down the list you go.

Most of Week 2’s games are tune-ups…again. But there are one or two BIG. GAMES. on the schedule. The biggest is #3 Oregon hosting #7 Michigan State. The only other game between ranked teams is between #13 Stanford and #14 Southern California at Stanford. Both of those games should be put in the toss-up file.

(Ranks on the left are those of the AP/Coaches Top 25/CBSSPORTS.COM 128 Polls as reported by CBSSports.com. NR = Not Ranked)

1/1/1 Florida State (1-0) The Seminoles will host the Citadel Bulldogs (0-1), an FCS school. Seminoles should have an easy time.

2/2/3 Alabama (1-0) The Crimson Tide plays host to Florida Atlantic Owls (0-1). Roll Tide!

3/4/2 Oregon (1-0) The Ducks host the #7 Michigan State Spartans (1-0). Don’t expect the Ducks to put up big numbers this week. They have their work cut out for them. Close game and a toss-up.

4/3/7 Oklahoma (1-0) The Sooners travel to Tulsa to play the Golden Hurricane (1-0). Oklahoma is more a tornado kind of place. They laugh at hurricanes, golden or otherwise.

5/5/5 Auburn (1-0) The Tigers host the San Jose State Spartans (1-0). Long trip across country for San Jose State. They should get a participation award because they sure won’t get a “W”.

6/8/4 Georgia (1-0) The Bulldogs have this weekend off.

7/6/6 Michigan State (1-0) The Spartans head west to play the #3 Oregon Ducks (1-0). We’ll see how good the Spartan defense is in this one.

8/7/11 Ohio State (1-0) The Buckeyes will host the Hokies of Virginia Tech (1-0). Good test for the Buckeyes. But they should prevail.

9/13/9 Texas A&M (1-0) The Aggies host the Lamar Cardinals (1-0), an FCS school. The Aggies will go 2 and 0.

10/9/8 Baylor (1-0) The Bears will host the Northwestern State Demons (0-1), an FCS school. The Bears will need to find out if Bryce Perry is okay. If he isn’t, then they have an opportunity to bring in the back-up to get some experience and still come away with a win.

11/11/12 UCLA (1-0) The Bruins will host the Memphis Tigers (1-0). The Bruins will enjoy the visit.

12/12/13 LSU (1-0) The Tigers host the Sam Houston State Bearkats (1-1). LSU shouldn’t have to come back in this game.

13/10/10 Stanford (1-0) The Cardinal host the #14 Southern California Trojans (1-0). Excellent game between two evenly matched teams. Call it a toss-up.

14/14/14 Southern California (1-0) The Trojans make a short trip to play the #13 Stanford Cardinal (1-0). See above.

15/17/18 Ole Miss (1-0) The Rebels travel to face the Vanderbilt Commodores (0-1). Vandy lost big to Temple. Expect them to be sunk by the Rebels.

16/15/17 Notre Dame (1-0) The Fighting Irish host the Michigan Wolverines (1-0). It’s a big game between rivals, but the way Golson and the Irish played last week? Should not be a problem for ND>

17/16/19 Arizona State (1-0) The Sun Devils are on the road to play the New Mexico Lobos (0-1). The Sun Devils will spank the Lobos.

18/19/20 Wisconsin (0-1) The Badgers host the Western Illinois Leathernecks (1-0), and FCS team. The Badgers will take out their frustrations with last week’s tough loss by beating up on Western Illinois.

19/18/15 Nebraska (1-0) The Cornhuskers host the McNeese State Cowboys (0-0), an FCS school. Oh boy. Another rout in the making for the Cornhuskers.

20/20/16 Kansas State (1-0) The Wildcats are on the road to play the Iowa State Cyclones (0-1). Ames will not be a happy place…for the Cyclones.

21T/23/ NR North Carolina (1-0) The Tar Heels host the San Diego State Aztecs (1-0). It’s a long trip across country for the Aztecs. They should succeed in travelling home with a “W”.

21 T/21/24 South Carolina (0-1) The Gamecocks host the East Carolina Pirates (1-0). The Gamecocks need to rebound so the Pirates better watch out. (If the Gamecocks DON’T rebound, then they better look for a witness protection program.

23/24/23 Clemson (0-1) The Tigers host the South Carolina State Bulldogs (1-0), an FCS team. Clemson will rebound against the Bulldogs.

24/22/NR Missouri (1-0) The Tigers hit the road to face the Toledo Rockets (1-0). The Rockets beat New Hampshire 54-20 last week. Though New Hampshire is an FCS school, they are a top ranked FCS team. Missouri better not take the Rockets lightly.

25/NR/NR Louisville (1-0) The Cardinals host the Murray State Racers (1-0), an FCS team. The Cardinals should have no problem.

NR/25/NR Texas (1-0) The Longhorns will host the BYU Cougars (1-0). If Ash can’t go, then the Cougars will triumph.

NR/NR/21 Iowa (1-0) The Hawkeyes will host the Ball State Cardinals (1-0). Could be a close game but the Hawkeyes should win.

NR/NR/22 Marshall (1-0) The Thundering Herd will host the Rhode Island Rams (0-0), an FCS team.  The Herd will stomp the Rams.

NR/NR/25 Florida (0-0) The Gators host the Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-0). The Gators should win…if they play.

My Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-0) will host the Howard Bison (0-1), an FCS team that lost to Toledo 41-0 last week. The Knights should have no problem starting 2-0 as they work on improving their pass defense.
