Terry and I went on another birding walk with some folks from the Tiadaghton Audubon Society today. Today's destination was The Muck on Route 287 just north of Wellsboro and a section of the rails-to-trails path being constructed along Marsh Creek just west of that town. There were seven of us in all on the hike, with Dianne taking the lead as Gary (our usual leader) was in Cape May, NJ searching for warblers and shorebirds.
We did pretty well on finding our own birds, however. I compiled the following list and know that others saw some birds I didn't include here.
American Crow
American Robin
Barn Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Blue Jay
Canada Goose
Chipping Sparrow
Common Grackle
European Starling
Goldfinch
Great Blue Heron
Horned Grebe (although, on second thought, they may have been Pied-billed Grebes)
Mourning Dove
Northern Cardinal
Northern Mockingbird
Osprey
Red-winged Blackbird
Solitary Sandpiper
Swamp Sparrow
Tree Swallow
Tufted Titmouse
Turkey Vulture
Sora
Wood Duck
Yellow Warbler
I'm not comfortable with our ID of the Horned Grebes, however. I didn't see any color on the two birds that were swimming away from us about 25 yards out. We should have looked more carefully at the bills but they too seemed rather drab.
