Record Low Temps in the Midwest

Frigid air from Canada poured southward along the eastern edge of the Rockies plunging the midsection of the country into the big chill on Wednesday. West Yellowstone reported a record minus 45 degrees (the old record was minus 39 back in 1927). Lubbock, TX was 6 above but Denver, CO registered a minus 11 and the Hohnholz Ranch, 50 miles northwest of Fort Collins, bottomed out at 37 below zero. Las Vegas came in at zero.

And I thought it was cold this afternoon as I sat in a tree stand in Warren County, NJ. At least the thermometer at the diner on Rt. 31 said it was 24 this evening (14 this morning). The wind, however, had the big flags at the car dealerships sticking out horizontally. The Hawk was definitely out to play.

Come to think of it, the cold air in NJ was probably the same air that was in Montana, Colorado, Illinois, et. al. earlier. yeah , the wind was that strong!

And we got snow in the forecast starting tomorrow afternoon. Course, I'd rather have snow then that darned freezing rain we seem to get around here, aka "frizzle"
