Tom Thurston (Bib #68) has withdrawn form the race at Ophir. His team had been reduced to 9 dogs and he decided, for the well being of those remaining, that they had had enough.

Meanwhile, at McGrath, Rookie racer Justin Savidis (Bib #10) has been stalled by a runaway dog. Whitey bolted yesterday afternoon and efforts to locate and capture him have, so far, proven fruitless. Rules require mushers to account for all their dogs so Savidis is forbidden from moving on until Whitey is back under control. Time is running out. Savidis has less than an hour before his 24-hour rest is up.
