December 7, 1941 "A date which will live in infamy"

This was the day that Japan launched an air attack against the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. While the Us had been doing its best to supply Great Britain against the forces of Germany and Italy in Europe, the surprise attack against the US forced the formal entry of America into World War II. 18 US ships were destroyed, sunk or capsized. 2400 Americans were killed and another 1000 wounded in the attack.

While the US naval forces were crippled giving the Japanese a virtual free reign in the Pacific, it was just the beginning. It wouldn’t be long before the tide would turn.
