College Football: Week 2 results.

Week 2 of the college football season has concluded with its usual collection of close games, blow-outs and even an upset or two. And I didn't get to watch any of them. Now that the TV world has gone digital, I receive but two channels: NBC and the CW. And even the NBC station was showing infomercials in the 6-8 PM slot on Saturday! I have got to go get me a "real" antenna! (No cable for me at the Bolt Hole and the portable Dish that could be used with the travel trailer? Not until I win the lottery!)

Here are the results for the Top 25 (more or less) for Week 2. The rankings are from the AP/Coaches Poll/CBSSports 120 and were the teams’ positions prior to kickoff on Thursday night.

/1/1 Florida chomped on Troy Saturday by a score of 56-6.

/2/2 Texas rode Wyoming into the ground, 41-10. (Why was Colt McCoy still playing in the fourth quarter of this game?)

/3/4 Southern California came from behind to beat #8 Ohio State as they scored 8 points in the fourth quarter to win 18-15.

/4/3 Alabama: The Tide rolled over Florida International by a score of 40-14.

/6/6 Oklahoma State was a generous host to the Houston Cougars. Houston got the W with a 45-35 upset.

/8/9 Mississippi did not play this weekend.

/5/8 Penn State continued schooling Greg Paulus of Syracuse as the NIttany Lions beat the Orange 28-7 on Saturday.

/7/5 Ohio State dropped a close one to #3 Southern California 18-15.

/12/7 Brigham Young played with Tulane as BYU won 54-3.

/10/12 California drubbed Eastern Washington 59-7.

/9/11 LSU beat Vanderbilt 23-9.

/11/10 Boise State shut out Miami (Ohio) 48-0.

/14/13 Oklahoma blanked Idaho State 64-0.

/15/16 Virginia Tech beat Marshall 52-10.

/13/14 Georgia Tech escaped with a 30-27 victory over Clemson on Thursday night as The Curse almost got them. If not for place kicker Scott Blair—who must be enjoying a wonderful week on campus—the Rambling Wreck would have been…well...wrecked. Blair through a 34-yard TD pass off a fake field goal, kicked a field goal and three extra points—in the first half to help push GT to a 24-0 lead. Unfortunately, GT defense gave it all back and more as they fell behind 27-24. Not to worry, however, Blair came to the rescue by kicking a 34-yard FG to tie with 5:40 remaining in the game and then made a 36 yarder with 57 seconds left to win the game.

/16/15 TCU beat Virginia 30-14 in the Horned Frogs first action of the season.

/17/18 Utah beat San Jose State 24-14.

/20/21 Notre Dame lost to Michigan 38-34 in a game that wasn’t that close. Sorry Charlie.

/19/22 North Carolina edged Connecticut 12-10 when UConn was flagged for a holding penalty...in the end zone…for a safety.

/21/17 Georgia slipped past South Carolina 41-37.

/18/20 Nebraska beat Arkansas State 38-9.

/23/NL Cincinnati creamed Southeast Missouri State 70-3 in this weekend’s most lopsided score.

/25/19 Kansas beat Texas-El Paso 34-7.

/NL/NL Missouri had to come from behind to beat Bowling Green 27-20.

NL/24/NL Oregon State edged UNLV 23-21.

NL/NL/24 Michigan State lost to Central Michigan 29-27.

NL/NL/25 Oregon barely beat Purdue 38-36.
