Wahoo! Baseball season has begun!

The Boston Red Sox and Oakland A’s kicked off the Major League baseball season over in Japan. In a 10-inning contest the Sox took down the A’s 6-5.

Daisuke Matsuzaka got the start for Boston and went 5 innings giving up 2 runs (both earned)on 2 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 6. Reliever Hideki Okajima got the win with a perfect 9th inning performance.

Joe Blanton started for the A’s and went 5.2 innings. He surrendered 3 runs (all earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Huston Street took the loss with a line of 1.2 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs (all earned), 1 walk, 2 strikeouts.

Rookie Brandon Moss went 2 for 5 at the plate with a homerun and 2 RBI and Manny Ramierez was also 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI for the Red Sox.

The two teams square off again tonight (?)—on ESPN2 at 6:05 AM EDST Wednesday. (God I hate the International Date Line! Can’t wait for all the Olympic coverage from China. It was bad enough suffering through XXVII Olympics from Australia (2000).)

The full recap is here and the box score is here.

That means the Red Sox are ½ game ahead of the Yankees, right?

The Mets' season (the real one where they play with just 9 guys on a side) begins on Monday, March 31 in Miami against the Marlins at 4:10 PM.

Joted, don't tell me you're a Met fan. That's terrible man. Didn't we go over this months ago when we got on Dolyes case about Choo Choo Coleman. Come over to the dark side. Joe Torre did. Darryl and Doc did it. David Cone did it. Even Lee Mazzilli for cripes sake. I got to get you to see the light.

Sorry about misspelling your name
Joated, I just dashed off the comment.

Trooper (if I may call you by your first name), those are all noteworthy names but they mean naught to me since they turned to the Dark Side, aka the Bronx, and that pinstriped collection of...of... high priced has beens, of wanna be players, in a faux league.

Sorry, man, I AM a Mets fan and will remain so---despite their freaking stupid collapse at the end of last season! Schmucks!

But don't you see that the evil that is Flushing has seeped into their very pores. Collapses come and go, none could be more painfull than when we choked vs the Red Saux. But the Yankees are going to win the series since we got rid of the curse of Don Mattingly and are free at last. You guys don't have a bull pen and the outfield is very shakey. Doesn't Moises Alou have Azlhemiers or something. And don't get me started on Pedro and EL Duque. You might as well have Fidel Castro pitching, he's feeling better these days. Jeeeez.

Santana, Maine, and Martinez may be the best 1, 2, 3 starts in the baseball. Perez will do okay at #4.
#5 is anybody's guess right now. But don't be surprised to see one of the two kids from New Orleans in June if el Duque shows he has totally lost it and Pelfrey never finds it. Bullpen: Heilman, Sanchez, Smith, And Wagner will do just fine.

Infield is fine if Delgado gets/stays healthy. There's nothing wrong with Beltran, Church, Chavez and Pagan. (I agree about Alou. Too many injuries there. When he's on, he's very good. He just can't seem to catch a break--oops--I mean stay healthy.) catching? Who knows.

The Mets will be there in October.

It could be worse, you could be a long suffering Texas Rangers fan. Looking forward to another last place finish.

Texas Rangers play baseball? Being in that other league they must fly beneath my radar. Then again, if they play as badly as you say, they probably fly under everyone's radar.
