Today is the birth date of George Armstrong Custer. Custer was born in Harrison County, Ohio in 1839. He attended West Point where he finished last in the class of 1861 but swiftly distinguished himself during the Civil War becoming the youngest general in the US Army at age 23 in June of 1863. Unfortunately, his daring led him into one of the most renowned errors in military history at the Battle of Little Bug Horn and it is for this that he is most remembered.
