utgers’ Scarlet Knights lost Saturday afternoon to MSU’s Spartans 73-71 in a tightly fought contest on national TV. The loss drops the Lady Knights to 10-2 over all, 2-0 in the Big East. Michigan State shot only 38% from the floor while RU was shooting 48%. The Spartans more than made up for the disparity at the free throw line as they held a heavy advantage on the stripe. MSU players had 34 free throws and made 30 of them. Rutgers players only got to the stripe 11 times and made 7.
Lindsey Bowen led the Spartans with 22 points while Liz Shiimek added 19, Victoria Lucas-Perry had 15 and Rene Haynes had 10.
Cappie Pondexter led Rutgers with 24 and Essence Carson added 17 and Matee Ajavon had 15.
The Rutgers’ women next face South Florida in a Big East contest in Tampa, FL at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11th.
