In the years before we moved from NJ, the number of trick-or-treaters dwindled to a mere handful. Last year we were living full time at the Bolt Hole at the end of the paved road and power line with the nearest occupied dwelling a quarter mile away--and it had no kids. I figure the nearest school age youngster was, oh, three quarters of a mile away.
Here at the Aerie we face a similar situation. Houses along the road are few and far between and the number with youngsters is even fewer. I don't expect to be visited by and ghosts, goblins or ghouls this evening.
*sigh*
I miss the times when we had a hundred or more costumed kids between the ages of 4 and 14 ringing our doorbell.

You know, I've noticed this a lot too, and we live in a fairly populated neighborhood. In my parents hometown, they have something called "trunk or treat" where people who enjoy trick our treaters but live out in the country don't typically get any, they all come into town in a designated area (many churches do this as well) and they go all out decorating their cars, playing haunted music, dressing up etc, and all the kids come and go from car to car trick or treating. It seems to be taking on in several area's across the country. I wonder if your hometown has something like this for next year so you wont' miss out.
Sounds almost gypsy-ish. Cars formed up in a circle and all.
If I really want to see the kids, the town has a Halloween parade around five in the evening. But it's some 6 or 7 miles from the Aerie. Then again, friends Don and Deb have four fantastic grandkids living nextdoor to them and there are a dozen or so more kids in their area. We could always invite ourselves over or even get costumed up and pay a call.
