A third of the way to Nome

The leaders have pulled into Nikolai--officially 347 miles from Anchorage and 765 miles from Nome--so they are about 1/3 of the way through the race. The first three are:

Sebastian Schnuelle (35)
Mitch Seavey (19)
Jeff King (15)
(Numbers in parentheses are bib numbers.)

Schnuelle was last year's second place finisher.
Seavey won in 2004.
King has won the race four times: 1993, 1996, 1998, and 2006.

They say the trail to Nikolai is the worst of it. If you get to this point, you've an excellent chance of finishing. So far, no one has had to drop out (except for a dog or two on several teams) and the full compliment of 71 mushers and their teams are in the race.

UPDATE: Jeez, all I did was blink and look who shows up!

4 John Baker (8)

5 Hans Gatt (20)

6 Hugh Neff (56)

7 Sven Haltmann (42)

8 Lance Mackey (49)

9 Gerry Willomitzer (55)

10 Aliy Zirkle (50)

11 Zack Steer (47)
