A rather trying time to get into the city on Friday evening to visit with Rick and Sandy. From our campground in Fairview to the area of their apartment looked to be a straight run down Sandy Boulevard to Burnside so that's what we planned to do--while setting Rick's directions aside.
Our path took us through residential/small business areas and gave us a not very pleasant feeling for the area. Then we hit a snag. There's construction going on at the city end of Sandy and before we could get to Burnside Bridge, we did a few loop-de-loops trying to relocate the entrance. Couch and a few other streets in a four or five block radius got visited before we succeeded.
Over the bridge we found ourselves trapped on a road (Burnside) that permits no escape. More than half of the intersections are marked "No Turns" and those that weren't happened to be one-way in the wrong direction. We wanted to turn on to SW 15th Street so as to get to SW Alder but ended up taking a tour of the NW quadrant and a sizable portion of the SW before we got lined up properly and pulled into a parking spot right in front of their apartment just as Rick came sauntering up the street from a dental appointment. (After traveling around that section of the city--during rush hour--I could have used some nitrous oxide and/or Novocaine!)
We did get there, however, and Sandy joined us a short time later after Rick called to tell her we had arrived. Her work place is just a two blocks away. We then walked some of those same streets we had just rode upon to go to Deschutes Brewery and Public House for dinner.
We followed Rick's directions carefully when we returned to our trailer.
