December enters as a Lion

It was 18 degrees and quite windy this morning at 8 AM here at the Aerie. Steady 10-15 mph winds out f the northwest were accompanied by gusts up to 35 mph for very low wind chill numbers. Terry and I had planned to go to the Dickens Holiday Festival over at Wellsboro today but one look at that thermometer made us alter our plans ad opt instead for the warmth of our home and some hot chocolate.

The forecast for Sunday into Monday is getting interesting. Snow, sleet and freezing rain are all mentioned to various degrees but no one is putting any numbers on the table for our area yet. Not so for the Bolt Hole. Mark reports there's already four inches on the ground (Thursday night) with five or six expected last night and, perhaps, a foot or more Sunday into Monday. Some of that is lake effect snow. The Bolt hole is located southeast of Lake Ontario's eastern end and when the wind blows hard out of the northwest.... It's also at an elevation of nearly 1600 feet so any borderline rains that may occur down in the Mohawk Valley (Utica area) become snow at the Bolt Hole.
