Bar hosts 81st burglary

That’s the headline for this story from Reuters on Yahoo News. The bar is in Berlin, Germany and has been robbed 81 times in 12 years. I don’t believe this would have happened anywhere in the US with the possible exception of a couple of cities that ban all guns. Even then I believe the police would be embarrassed to have this kind of record on their beat: only twice have they caught the offenders red-handed.

If I need to explain why it wouldn’t happen, you don’t understand the “cowboy” mentality of most Americans. That’s the one based upon the self-protection of personal property, friends and family. The people, aka patrons, of the bar would take it upon themselves to see that the property was protected just as these folks are doing, but any would-be thieves would find they would have to face something more than baseball bats.
